New York Police Department, 12th Precinct, Detectives Division
show: Barney Miller
style: 70s police squadroom
key quirks: Jail cell, bad coffee
Two decades before Rudy Giuliani cleaned up the Big Apple, Capt. Barney Miller keeps crime in check from the meticulously cluttered, open-concept offices of the N.Y.P.D.’s 12 Precinct, down in Greenwich Village. “Grimy” and “green” best describe the aesthetic, which appears more theatrical than real-life Gotham. The grittysquadroom atmosphere is heightened by endless piles of paperwork, Nick Yemana's notoriously terrible coffeecoffee, and Fish's frequent trips to the bathroom.
