Got a die-hard Mad Men fan on your holiday shopping roster? Need a few Sterling Cooper-era stocking stuffers? Or just looking for a few must-have items to round out your own wish list?
Look no further, because we've got you covered. From Bert Cooper's bow tie to Roger Sterling's mini-bar to Betty Draper's black bustier, we've got something for everyone on your list.
Jon Hamm's career is busting wide open right now. He has a slew of new projects to work on before the next season of Mad Men, including the final Shrek movie! He will provide the voice of a resistance leader, according to USA Today.
Hamm will actually be an ogre, if you can believe it. According to director Mike Mitchell, "He is the best looking ogre you've ever seen." Naturally!
At the end of Mad Men's third season, we saw Sterling Cooper being sold to McCann Erickson. Although Sterling Cooper is fictional, McCann is not. Recently, the giant firm humorously placed ads in publications that read, "Welcome, Sterling Cooper." There is also a shout-out to the show on McCann's New York site, McCanny.
According to The New York Times, McCann didn't know about the on-screen merger until they saw the finale. However, they had a great sense of humor about it, even though some characters reacted negatively to working for McCann.
On a personal note, my husband mentioned to me today that he used to go into McCann's Dallas office all the time when he was a courier in college. He said it wasn't a "sausage factory" at all, as Mad Men proclaims. Instead, there were free chips and drinks everywhere (courtesy of their clients) and everyone in the office played Doom against each other on Fridays. Sounds like a swell place to work, if you ask me!
Last weekend, January Jones hosted Saturday Night Live and it was very refreshing to see her smiling! There were many standout sketches for Jones on Saturday, including her as a Grace Kelly type in a Hitchcock spoof. However, it was this one that really made me think of Mad Men.
NEW INTERVIEW WITH MATTHEW WEINER
NOVEMBER 13, 2009
Big thanks to shaynarose3 for tipping us off about a recent Q&A with Matthew Weiner. The Mad Men creator opened up about season three and answered some questions we have been kicking around.
Remember when some of us were just positive that Miss Farrell was going to turn all Fatal Attraction on Don?
Matthew says:
I think the idea of a woman who wanted to have sex with a married man and enter it with her eyes wide open about that was very confusing to people and they thought the story had to lead to him getting caught, because I’m telling a story. But it’s not conscious on that level, it’s really not.
Well, I think we've learned by now that this show is completely unpredictable. The rest of the interview is just as enlightening. You can read it here.
Mad Men has incorporated a lot of real-life clients and personalities into its storyline, but none so influential as Don Draper's adoptive "father" – Conrad Hilton.
Life online has put together a great slideshow featuring the real Conrad Hilton, an extremely influential man (and the great-grandfather of Paris Hilton).
Check out Life's bio of the real Conrad Hilton here.
Don't you love seeing pictures of stars before they were famous? Usually, it's comforting to know they had an awkward stage, just like the rest of us. Not Jon Hamm, though. A picture of him from his high school football days surfaced this week and he was always handsome.
What a finale! Don, Roger, and six select co-conspirators managed to escape the doomed Sterling Cooper and start a completely new company. It took a lot of fast thinking, fast talking, and fast action to pull it off, but they pulled in all the right people and now they're off and running.
A quick look at the staff of the brand-new Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce:
Don Draper
Tipped off by Conrad Hilton
Don was the first to learn of the PPL sale, and unhappy at the prospect of working for McCann, he got the conspiracy to start a new firm rolling.
Bertram Cooper
Recruited by Don
At first reluctant to take any action over the sale of Sterling Cooper, Bert was swayed by Don's passion for the ad business.
Roger Sterling
Recruited by Don & Bert
Roger came around when he realized that he'd never actually started his own company. He brought the critical Lucky Strikes account with him.
Lane Pryce
Recruited by Don, Bert, & Roger
No longer an outsider, Lane's power to fire the Sterling Cooper execs was crucial to their plan, as was his knowledge of corporate finance.
Pete Campbell
Recruited by Don & Roger
What the new firm needed most were accounts, and Pete came through, swayed in part by the fact that Don chose him over Ken.
Peggy Olson Recruited by Don
Still bitter at Don, Peggy proved the hardest one to convert. But Don kept after her and finally convinced her that she was irreplaceable.
Harry Crane Recuited by Bert
Needing someone to manage the new firm's media, Bert & gang essentially ambushed Harry and left him little choice but to join them.
Joan Harris Recruited by Roger
It quickly became clear that the new firm wouldn't stand a chance without Joan's expertise, and one call from Roger was all it took to bring her aboard.
Trudy Campbell Along for the ride
Not technically employed by SCDP, Trudy is so excited and supportive of the new project that she's taken to bringing them lunch... and cake.
There's also the question of those left behind, namely Paul Kinsey and Ken Cosgrove. Is that the last we'll see of them? And don't forget that Sal Romano is still out there somewhere as well...
Would you want to work at Sterling Cooper? How about Dunder Mifflin? WKRP? Would you rather work alongside Mary Tyler Moore, Lois Lane, or Jack Bauer?
This week we celebrate the Mad Men season finale with a look back at 30 of the best (and worst) offices in television history, from Al Swearengen's inner sanctum to J.R. Ewing's bullet-ridden desk chair.
Mad Men's third season has certainly been the most eventful yet – and with one more episode to go, a whole lot of questions still hang in the air. Will we get our answers, or are we going to get the mother of all cliffhangers?
Will Betty leave Don for Henry? If so, will she also abandon her children for the "fairy tale?"
Will Joan ever find her way back to Sterling Cooper? Is Greg destined for Vietnam?
Will Roger's marriage to Jane make it another year? How long can he survive without Joan?
Is Peggy finished with Duck? Will she leave Sterling Cooper for greener pastures?
What happens when PPL puts Sterling Cooper up for sale? Is Lane destined to wind up in Bombay?
Will Pete really take up Duck's offer to join Grey? Can Ken handle the pressure of his new VP position?
Is Sal gone for good? Will Sterling Cooper find a new Art Director?
Where has Conrad Hilton been? Does the Sterling Cooper sale open up a takeover possibility?
Will Guy ever golf again? (Sorry. Couldn't resist.)
Jon Hamm did a fine job hosting "Saturday Night Live" last year and now it's his television wife's turn! January Jones is scheduled to host the sketch show on November 14. Black Eyed Peas will be the musical guest.
What would you like to see January do on "Saturday Night Live?"
AMC has been plugging a Mad Men store on CafePress, which features a lot of great merchandise. From t-shirts to coffee mugs, you can buy plenty of handy gear that bears the Mad Men or Sterling Cooper logo.
Mad Men finally arrived at the critical date of November 22, 1963, with last night's episode, The Grown-Ups. Be sure to catch the Full Episode Recap!
It's also notable that AMC chose not to show any previews or teasers from next week's Season Finale. With the JFK assassination behind us, what will be the big cliffhanger for the Season 3? Share your theories and predictions! SUBMITTED BY GREEN-ARROW ADD A COMMENT
