ACTRESS WANTS MAD MEN HEALTH WARNING
AUGUST 23, 2010

Mad Men Blog - Mad Men Fan SiteDesperate Housewives actress Kathryn Joosten has reached out to Mad Men producers because she wants a health warning to air before each episode! Joosten, a former smoker and lung cancer survivor, thinks the show glamorizes smoking.

She told E! Online:

I think they should at least have a disclaimer at the front of the show saying smoking is relevant to the time and place with the subject matter we're dealing with and it is not recommended because it causes cancer.

What do you think about this idea?

Emma Frost

January Jones is about to trade in her retro Mad Men costumes for something much more revealing. She has been cast in the upcoming "X-Men: First Class" and will be playing Emma Frost (above). Also known as the White Queen, Emma Frost is a telepathic mutant.

"X-Men: First Class" is a prequel to the recent X-Men films and also stars James McAvoy, Kevin Bacon and Michael Fassbender.

NEW INTERVIEW WITH KIERNAN SHIPKA
AUGUST 10, 2010

Mad Men Blog - Mad Men Fan SiteKiernan Shipka, who plays little Sally Draper, was recently interviewed by Chicago Tribune's Maureen Ryan. I was pretty tickled by how mature she sounded and frankly, just amused by the idea of someone that young doing press for a mature show.

For example, she says things like, "Every script is so surprising. It's absolutely great to get such great material." Heh.

COMMERCIALS CUSTOM MADE FOR MAD MEN
AUGUST 6, 2010

Dove Mad Men Ad

You might have noticed a Mad Men-style Dove commercial that has been airing during the show this season. In fact, a few of us mentioned on the discussion board that we thought it was part of the show at first glance. Here it is:

It's no coincidence that it has a Mad Men feel, as it was custom made for the show. Unilever, the company that produces Dove, has signed an exclusive agreement with the program. It will produce similar commercials for the following brands: Breyers, Hellmann’s, Klondike, Suave and Vaseline.

Each commercial will take place at the imaginary 1964 ad agency featured in the Dove commercial.

1964 COMMERCIALS
JULY 30, 2010

We caught a glimpse of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce's critically acclaimed commercial last week on Mad Men. (You know, the one where the kid pretends to be in a Wild West jail?) Here's are a few real-life 1964 commercials. How do you think they stack up against the Mad Men ad?

MAD MEN RATINGS ARE UP!
JULY 28, 2010

Great news! Mad Men has long been known as one of the best shows on television, albeit with fairly low ratings. Well, maybe America has finally decided to turn off the reality shows and turn on their brains because Mad Men premiered on Sunday with record viewership.

2.9 million people tuned in for "Public Relations," making it the most watched season premiere in the show's history. True, that would be considered a small audience for a major network show, but it's quite good for basic cable. Season three averaged 1.8 million viewers and season two averaged 1.52 million. Slowly but surely, people are catching on!

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN SEASON FOUR?
JUNE 30, 2010

According to Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner, season four will be a fresh start for the series. Expect to see some major changes as Don Draper adjusts to single life and his new ad agency!

"I wanted to have a continuity of these characters and things that are happening to them ... and don't pretend like that they didn't happen," Weiner says. "At the same time, be prepared for the fact that [for] a lot of the things that happened, you're going to have to watch and see how they worked out."

"Mad Men" is huge in the UK right now. I wonder what they thought about the British buyout (and subsequent selling) of Sterling Cooper?

NEW CAST MEMBERS ADDED TO SEASON 4!

APRIL 6, 2010

Smoke Gets In Your Eyes

Matthew Weiner has revealed that several new recurring cast members will be added to "Mad Men" this season. Although he doesn't let on too much about who they are, these are their base descriptions:

  • A handsome/creative male. (Rival for Don?)
  • A voluptuous, curvy, brunette (Rival for Joan / Love Interest for Don?).
  • A nice guy with a lack of a personality. (Punching bag for everyone?)
Shooting for the fourth season of "Mad Men" begins on April 12. So, perhaps they can get these episodes in the can as soon as possible and bring them to us. Stat!

If I could work in any TV office, I think it would be the writer's room at 30 Rock! Places like Dunder Mifflin would just get downright irritating. I love watching Dwight and Micheal on the screen, but in real life, I'd probably go postal.

ThisWeekIn This Week in Mad Men, Episode #1 0 Jul 27 2010, 5:58 PM EDT by ThisWeekIn
Thread started: Jul 27 2010, 5:58 PM EDT  Watch
ThisWeekIn Network is proud to present the debut of our new series, "This Week in Mad Men," discussing all the goings-on in Season 4 with our panel of "Mad Men" aficionados and experts. See it here:

http://thisweekin.com/madmen

Our first episode dealt with the Season 4 premiere, as well as our predictions for the rest of the season, our Don Draper-style slogan pitches and, of course, copious amounts of drinking.

Topics discussed include:

- Who is Don Draper?

Don started the series all effortless cool, a guy who had it all - the envy of all men and irresistible to women. He's pretty much the complete opposite now. Awkward, volatile, depressed (and depressing). It's hard to imagine first-season Don wanting a woman to slap him in bed, or awkwardly moving in for a kiss on a first date, or misfiring during an interview so badly that his attempt to be humble and gracious makes him look "like a prick." It's like he's back to being Dick Whitman and has to start the transformation into Don Draper all over again, from scratch.

The episode ends with him basically deciding to fake it, to try to be the old Don Draper even if he knows he hasn't got it any more and can't just slip into the character effortlessly like he once did. There was a twinge of desperation to the act, particularly how he felt the need to add in the lie about having a second story. Maybe Betty and his relationship with her, and his family, was more integral to the Draper persona than he realized?

- Peggy and the Ham
- Betty's marriage to Henry...will it last?
- Where's the rest of Team Sterling Cooper?
- The Use of "Tobacco Road"

Hosts include Lon Harris, Jacob Burch, Jaime Fox and Jason McIntyre.

So, the John Deere Massacre of 1963 *wasn't* an odd bit of product placement. I honestly thought they approved it! BTW, the warning label is brilliant and I'm seriously thinking about printing a few of them on some sticker sheets and putting them on our lawn mower.

MaXimillian10 Men Without Hats 0 Apr 22 2010, 8:14 PM EDT by MaXimillian10

US President John F. Kennedy established many fashion trends,
along with his wife Jackie, as we are reminded of in this fabulous TV
series Mad Men.

Arguably, no president, or presidental couple has before or since, influenced
to that degree.

The producers have gone to great lengths and dilligence in bringing
forth that atmosphere.

It was a very dynamic period in history.

Among the many things Kennedy is famous for, is NOT wearing
a hat. I had heard that at the time, he caused quite a stir.
And of course the mens fashion industry, particularly
hat manufacturers didn't like that.

Consperacy theorest, can run with that one.
