The episode begins with Don and Sally, whose profile on the show has been much higher lately, with the Grandpa Gene storyline. Sally’s awake late and afraid of what’s going to happen when the lights are off. Dad says, “I’m home now. Nothing can hurt you.”
At a mandatory staff meeting at Sterling Cooper, Lane announces that the Putnam Powell and Lowe brass will be at the office the next two days, so the staff with be under scrutiny plus they’re expected to work on a previously scheduled day off (July 3). Have those Brits no shame? “Desks and offices need to be shipshape,” says Lane.

| - A man's foot is mutilated by a John Deere riding lawn mower in the office!
- That same man, a big executive from England, loses the foot and his job. After all, he will never be able to play golf again. What kind of businessman could he be?
- Joan's husband finds out he has another year of residency and won't become a surgeon. Therefore, she must keep working.
- Roger Sterling (whose actual "role" at Sterling Cooper keeps getting more vague) is accidentally left off the new org chart diagram... upon realizing the omission, one of the Brits hastily scribbles his name onto the chart in pencil, which only adds insult to injury.

- A few guys in the office discuss the Vietnam War, noting that very few men are being drafted. Clearly, the war is in its earliest stages.
