"Not at all. I think he was just trying to get her a decent wage because he cares about her so much." To be honest I can't see how it could be read any other way. Roger wasn't playing it like a joke for once, he really wants to help her.

"Another interesting bit of trivia about Paul -- Matthew Weiner (the show's creator) has admitted on several occasions that Paul is his doppelganger on the show, representing his own personal ups and downs as a writer. And Michael Gladis (who plays Paul) has said in interviews that he has the advantage of getting to talk to Matthew to get a more personal understanding of what's going on his character's head.
I wonder if Weiner actually knew a Draper and/or a Peggy in his life, or if they represent his idealized image of a genius writer (and thus, Paul vs. Peggy represents the real MW vs. the writer MW wants to be)?" That's an interesting story. For all that autoirony and mess there's Paul's/Matthew's intellect and education. And, oh, as far as I remember he (Paul) dated Joan, which is not that uncool at all. I don't think he's being professionally outdone by Peggy. At least not yet.

Let's discuss the episode here!
Ugh, I can't express how unhappy I am with Don after this episode. What he did to poor Sal was unconscionable, then he runs off and starts something with that teacher. Creep! I was happy for Betty, almost finding some comfort with Henry Thomas. I'm actually cheering on this woman in her affair, which just goes to show how messed up the people in this show are, LOL.

"Yes, it is, although to me the most interesting aspect is his relationship with his wife. I'm really curious just how aware she has become about the situation. Some bells went off earlier in the season, but I really want them to pursue the Sal story at home!
" I agree, this is a very interesting part of the story. The scene when Sal peforms the Bye Bye Birdie song for Kitty was pure movie magic, and an acting tour de force by Sarah Drew, she didn't have to say a word, her expression was priceless! After the bellhop incident there will be no going back for Sal, the genie is out of the bottle (so to speak). But he needs Kitty to keep his cover. I hope we will continue to follow Sal's journey beyond SC.

Oh, I would love for Joan and Roger to end up together, too! I could NOT believe what happened with the lawn mower. And that poor guy! He lost his job because he doesn't have a foot and can't play golf?! Egads, this show makes you grateful for all the modern discrimination / harassment laws.

So, a lot of things going on here. Peggy finally cut the apron strings, poor Grandpa died and no one consoled little Sally, PLUS Kitty's light bulb finally went off when Sal started jumping around like Robin Williams in The Birdcage. D'oh! I feel sorry for both of them. :(

"What does that mean, 'she deserves her comeuppance!'? Campbell obviously has a good relationship work wise with Peggy, and as we saw last year, Campbell still has feelings for her.
I think Campbell meant that in several ways. Campbell, knowing that Cosgrove is thought highly of by PPL, is probably thinking about Duck's offer a lot. Duck was always on Campbell's side.
Also, he'd probably have more incentive to leave if Peggy left." I mean that it isn't fair if she is being paid far less than the men around her for doing the same work. She shouldn't just settle for whatever Sterling Cooper throws her just because she was "lucky" enough to score a man's job. She has that job because she's good and they need to compensate her like the other writers.

Pete scoff's at Duck's proposal to work at Grey. Why is Pete so loyal to Sterling Cooper when he is mad about sharing his position with Ken? Why won't he take Duck's proposal seriously?

Yeah, I agree. I don't think that Pete is truly "loyal" to anyone but himself. I wonder if Duck will chase him though. Don can get away with playing hard-to-get, like he did in the first season when McCann Erickson came calling, but Don doesn't refuse an offer like Pete does. He could teach Pete a thing or two.
I also like Betty's storyline, mostly because she's about a thread away from falling apart. I always wonder how she'll react if she finds out that Don hasn't always been Don.

Decent premiere to the 2nd season, don't like Duck though.
Liked seeing Betty get her flirt on with the Tow Truck guy.
Guess I'm mean, because I LMA0 when Peggy made Lois cry.
Who did Don send that book to, perhaps Rachel?

""The Mountain King"
really liked this episode, Don appears to be at a crossroad in his life.
So Anna was the person he sent that book to, really like her.
The scene with Glen and Joan in Draper's office made me cringe.
He rapes her, then acts like nothing happened?!
what a PIG, hope she dumps his sorry butt.
" She seems to be having serious doubts now, as seen at her dinner party. I don't know if she would be too worried about saving face at work, though. She might not leave him. Plus, she probably feels past her prime. Those were different days...

"Smoke Gets in Your Eyes"
Okay my 1st thoughts...
Don Draper is not happy with his home life. Plus there's something boiling beneath the surface with him.
Pete Campbell is a douchebag, with a fratboy mentality.
Joan has been around the block a few times. my guess is she had sexual liasons with a few men at the firm.
Peggy is extremely naive and about to become that "type of girl"
Salvatore is gay.
With that said...
The sets and costumes for MM are absolutley gorgeous. Love the look of the show.
Jon Hamm is so HOT!!!
will be posting my thoughts on each episode, please give me some feedbck.

"same result in this one...
crickets...crickets...crickets..." Sorry, it's just that the thread hadn't been bumped in a while, so most of us hadn't seen it. Great synopsis here! Loved it when Pete failed to blackmail Don. The show really took a turn there, as I thought everything was going to hinge on whether or not Don was going to be found out!

No kidding, Alex! That was definitely the biggest shocker of the week. Can't wait to see how the Sal thing pans out, given that his wife seems to be onto him. (Don't do Ann Margaret impersonations if you're trying to stay in the closet, fellas!)

I'm thinking Joan and her rapist won't last much longer and it won't be pretty when it ends. She can't keep lying to herself much longer about the guy, especially when other people are confirming he's less than a catch, like at her dinner party.

Eh, on second viewing, I think the secretary may just be rooting for Peggy to do well for the sisterhood. She sees Peggy as having a unique opportunity in a man's world and she doesn't want her screwing it up. At least, that's the impression I'm getting.
